How to Set up Touch ID on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro

Touch ID is a biometric authentication system provided by Apple and it is available on various editions of smartphones like the iPhone 5s, iPhone X, and even in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro versions. The company offers the best quality built-in fingerprint sensor to these two MacBook series. Here is how users can set up Touch ID and use it on their Mac. Continue with these steps to know how it works and its setup process:

  5. Then provide your user passcode.
  6. Now continue with onscreen directions and place your finger over the Touch ID sensor again and again until it accepts your fingerprint to register you.

Using Touch ID on Mac edition of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro
You may use Touch ID on your Pro & Air editions of MacBooks to verify user’s account by the fingerprint sensing system. The Mac will ask you to enter your secure password the first time you restart your device. Then again if you use it for any of the services like Apple Pay, switching users, or making any purchase, it will never ask you to authenticate.
Here is how to use Touch ID on your Mac:
Signing to Touch ID
  1. First of all, open your MacBook Air or Pro. Alternatively, you may hit the Touch ID tab.
  2. Place your registered finger on the touch panel of your Mac until it accepts your fingerprint.
  3. After accepting your fingermark, your Mac will automatically open.
Switching the user’s account
  • You may switch your account instantly by placing your registered finger on the sensor to sign into your account.
Resetting the Touch ID
In case you are facing any of the problems related to the touch sensor or your Mac is prompting an error message regularly, then you have to reconstitute your Touch ID data. To do this, follow these instructions:
  1. First of all, start your Mac again and hold Command + R keys until the recovery mode appears.
  2. Then open the “Terminal” panel.
  3. Now type the following command:
“certutil– erase-all”
  1. Hit the “Return” button.
  2. When the prompt comes, tap “Yes” to confirm.
  3. Hit the enter key.
  4. Now quit the “Terminal” window.
  5. Now try to start the Mac in the normal way.
