How to Set Up a VPN on Windows 10

VPN aka Virtual Private Network protects your system and makes it secure to work on. It is useful for companies’ internet network. With VPN, companies can secure their private information. It also protects their secured data from various malicious sites and viruses and even unknown persons from misusing it.

Here is how to set up the VPN for your Windows 10 system through a series of important and easy to use steps:
Setting Up a VPN on Win- 10 Using a Third Party VPN Software
First of all, you have to select a VPN service for securing your computer running on Windows10. Then follow these steps:
  1. You should download any third-party Internet access VPN service such as “Private Internet Access.” After paying its due charge according to your subscription plan, you may download it as you wish.
  2. Then launch the website of Private Internet Access from where you bought the VPN Software. Now the installer will start to download through the web browser.
  3. After that, you have to select the option that says “Save As.” Hit the tab to save the installer to the home screen of your system. It becomes easier to download the VPN through Private Internet Access.
Downloading VPN Software
  1. After finishing the process of installation for “Private Internet Access.” Right-click from the mouse and hit the “Run as administrator” option. After a while, you will see the DOS (command prompt) window appear on your computer screen. It will make all the required changes to the system to run the VPN software on your device.
  2. Now, tap on the “Install” tab in order to confirm the permission. It will show up inside a pop-out box.
  3. Next, modify your internet connection type to TCP. 
  4. Then hit the “Private Internet Access” symbol and perform the appropriate selection to do your desired action.
Setting up the VPN through the Window’s Built-in Feature
In case you don’t wish to take a paid VPN subscription, you may use its free service, which is the built-in feature provided by Windows 10. 
For enabling this great feature, your system will need to configure its functions and OS. It will take a couple of minutes.
Follow the offered steps to configure it:
  1. First of all, hit the “Windows’ icon located inside your Windows 10 taskbar.
  2. After that, hit the “Settings” icon here. It resembles a gear-shaped logo.
  3. Once the Windows Settings page displays on your Window, hit the “Network and Internet” option here.
  4. Now look for the VPN on the left-hand side section.
  5. Click on it to open it.
  6. After that, a particular VPN section will appear on your screen. Tap the “+” signed icon saying, “Add a VPN connection.”
  7. Next, you have to tap the option that reads “Windows (built-in)” as a mode of your Virtual Private Network (VPN) provider. It will be inside the pull-drop menu.
  8. Then name your VPN connection so that you can call it whenever you need an internet connection.
  9. Now, the address of your connection server will be placed in the next field.
  10. After that, you have to select the “PPTP” option.
  11. Now, provide your username and a secured passcode as a log in information. Now, type your passcode, followed by your username to sign in to your account.
  12. Finally, hit the “Save” tab located at the lowermost portion of your VPN set up page.
  13. The VPN will now display inside the VPN listing. If you wish to start your VPN connection, then you have to tap VPN from the list and then chose the “Connect” tab.
